The United States President on Thursday signed an executive order sanctioning South Sudan individuals and entities’ including visa bans and freezing assets.

Barrack Obama said in the White House “those who threaten the peace, security or stability of South Sudan, obstruct the peace process, target UN peacekeepers are responsible for human rights abuses and atrocities will not have a friend in the United States and run the risk of sanctions.”

He said the executive order is necessary for the US to take a step, but did not name the individuals or entities under the sanction.

President Obama called on the two warring parties to end violence, saying there is “no room for excuses or delay.”

Officials said the European Union, Britain, Norway and the United Nations Security Council are also in the process of considering similar actions.

Presidential Press Secretary Ateny Wek Ateny told the press on Friday in Juba that the presidency received and briefed the cabinet on President Obama’s sanctions order and that the cabinet was studying the document for possible response.
