Nine girls were reportedly raped at Christ the King Church in Malakal during the recent recapture by anti-government forces.
Saut al-Mahabba Radio Director Elena Balatti told CRN on Thursday that a large number of people took refuge at the church to find security, but the fierce fighters could not spare the holy place.
She lamented that rape seems to have become a tool of war.
Sr Elena said Malakal was an empty, devastated town in the most heinous way.
She added that more than 40 percent of the town was burnt beyond recognition during the last two months of the ongoing conflict.
Sr Elena said dead bodies were lying around without burial, but only vultures and dogs fed on them.
The sister made the statement on Thursday in Juba after fleeing Malakal town.
