The President of the Republic on Friday directed all government institutions to resume normal relations with United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS.

Press Secretary in the Office of the President Ateny Wek Ateny said President Salva Kiir Mayardit ordered all government institutions to relate normally with UNMISS after a meeting with its head Hilde F Johnson.

He said the Presidency reminded the Mission to check and adhere to its mandate in supporting government and keeping peace without biasness.

Mr Ateny said President Kiir recognized the role UN played in the birth of South Sudan.

The Secretary explained that the President particularly recognized Ms Johnson’s role in promoting peace efforts in Sudan through the Comprehensive Peace Agreement as Norwegian International Development Minister.

The Press Secretary commended the signing of Cessation of Hostilities and Status of Detainees Agreements in Addis Abba, Ethiopia.

He described terms of agreements including the progressive withdrawal of invited allied forces and the release of detainees as loopholes.

Mr Ateny said Ugandan forces would remain in South Sudan to pursue Lords’ Resistance Army or LRA and protect common interest of the two countries.
