Torit Catholic Christians and the state government on Wednesday held memorial prayers in the honour of the late Fr Saturlino Ohure.
Our Lady of Assumption Parish Priest Joseph Aroma said Christians assembled at Fr Saturlino mausoleum in Torit town and marched to the Church for the Eucharistic celebrate, Emmanuel Radio reported.
Torit Diocesan Pastoral Coordinator Fr Camillo Afore said the late Fr Saturlino Ohure struggled for the freedom of the people of South Sudan.
He said the late Fr Saturlino was one of the founders of the national liberation struggle because he suffered and died for the sake of South Sudanese.
Fr Afore explained that other founders included Joseph Oduho, Ezbon Monir, Aggrey Jaden, Ferdinand Adiang, William Deng, Pangarasio Ochen and Natalian Oyet.
He added that George Muras and Samuel Oliha who are still alive were among the liberation struggle pioneers.
The Pastoral Coordinator called on the people to work for peace, unity among young people and have the spirit of patriotism.
Fr Afore said Eastern Equatoria government supported the memorial prayers.
