Butchers at Torit markets expressed fear of low meat supply in the town due to few animals to be slaughtered.
Butchers chairperson Papa Paul Francis attributed bulls’ shortage in Torit to fear of insecurity along Torit ‚Äì Kapoeta road, Emmanuel Radio reported.
He added that truck owners declined to transport cows from Kapoeta to Torit due to fear of attacks along the road.
Mr Paul said Torit town residents consume about 15 bulls everyday but now butchers can only slaughter two or three daily.
The chairperson said butchers could mobilize themselves to bring cows from Kapoeta to Torit on foot in order to save the situation.
He appealed to the state government to intervene by providing security to enable them bring animals to Torit.
Torit citizens expressed fear of price increase on other food commodities due to shortage of meat in markets.
The citizens called on the state government to rescue the situation.
