The National Information and Broadcasting Minister directed all media houses to pay taxes before they renew their licenses.

Michael Makuei Lueth told the press that South Sudanese journalists must register with the Ministry in order to be recognized when they travel abroad.

He said any journalist working for a media house in South Sudan must have a communication certificate from a recognized institution.

Mr Makuei added that registered media houses and companies that fail to function till the end of the year would be deregistered.

The Minister urged journalists to report responsibly without presenting their opinions.

Miraya Radio journalist Gabriel Joseph Shadar appealed to the minister for special consideration of media houses with low income during taxation.

He said media houses were not financially stable because some were only supported by international donors.

Mr Shadar said there was need for a dialogue between Information and Finance ministries to address media taxes.
