The Government of Japan donated emergency relief goods valued at 180,000 US dollars for the flood victims in the response to the appeal made by the Government of South Sudan.
The aid donated through JICA, Japan International Cooperation Agency, included 1,600 blankets, 1,600 jerry cans, 200 tents, 200 mosquito nets and 96,000 aquatabs.
Takeshi Akamatsu, Ambassador of Japan, said during the handover ceremony on Friday in Juba: ‘We are handing over these relief items to the flood victims and asking the Government of South Sudan for prompt distribution through their proper systems.’
And he added: ‘South Sudan is bestowed with many blessings; natural resources, sunshine, and water. Wisely utilizing and maximizing these potential is the biggest challenge for South Sudan and each and every South Sudanese.’
Seasonal floods affected so far almost 328 thousand people, including 127 thousand in Jonglei.
