Yei agricultural sector achieved 75 percent of agricultural production of its variety of crops this year.

Yei River County Agriculture Assistant Commissioner Edmond Taban Gogo explained in his annual report on Thursday that there were many supplies of cassava, coffee, maize, cash and food crops produced in the County, Easter Radio reported.

He added that there was a 25 percent surplus that would go to the market and the farmers were earlier advised to be food secure before selling all their products.

Mr Gogo cited youths’ immigration, lack of motivation to extension workers, bad roads and lack of capacity building to farmers as major challenges of the sector.

He said late delivery of tools and seeds by the government and development partners affected the farmers’ production.
