Central Equatoria HIV Aids commission policy and planning officer on Monday said the new HIV infections in the state are 2,500 every year.
Youngson David Shadrack said the country has 16 thousand new infections every year, Easter Radio reported.
He explained that 150 thousand people live with HIV in the country, equivalent to 2.6 percent of the population.
Yei River County Paramount Chief Peter Saidi urged parents to educate their children about preventive measures for not contracting HIV Aids.
He warned that parents who regularly drink and do not educate their children would face the law.
Chief Saidi identified that some parents returned from work late at night and could not talk to their children.
He advised people living with HIV to comply to the preventive and treatment measures to live longer.
The officials made the statements on Monday during the celebration of the World Aids Day at Yei Freedom Square.
