Lakes state authorities on Monday night launched a surprised search for illegal guns in Rumbek town and captured 109 different types of firearms in the process.
Rumbek Centre Commissioner Abraham Meen Kuch on Tuesday said the operation captured 103 AK47 machine guns, five pistols one MB3 and a long range radio, Good News Radio reported.
He said three quarters of guns were collected from civilians.
Mr Meen said security forces killed a person suspected to be behind the killing of two people in Kech cattle camp two weeks ago.
The Commissioner clarified that security forces did not intend to kill the man but they retaliated when he opened fire at them.
Mr Meen said 90 days of peaceful disarmament expired and the government was launching forceful disarmament against civilians possessing illegal guns.
