IRI trains youth on lobbying

International Republican Institute or IRI trained youth on lobbying for political participation in Wau, Western bahr El Ghazal State.
 
IRI Assistant Program Officer Aate Catherine said the workshop aimed at discussing the importance of youths’ political participation, Voice of Hope reported.
 
She said lobbying and unity among youths were very important in decision making and in the ongoing constitutional review process.
 
Ms Catherine said IRI wanted to raise youths awareness on the new Political Act that parliament passed recently.
 
She explained that youths were often neglected due to ignorance.
 
Ms Catherine revealed that according to statistics youth make up 70 percent of South Sudan population, and that they must unite and lobby for  nation building.
 
The three-day workshop that began on Tuesday under the theme: ’empowering youth for nation building’ drew together 40 participants from six political parties in Western Bahr El Ghazal State.
