Lakes State parliamentarians on Thursday boycotted capacity building workshop International Republican Institute or IRI organized in Rumbek.

MP Marik Ngana Marik told IRI facilitators that lawmakers cannot attend the workshop because the speaker shut down the parliament for unknown reasons, Good News Radio reported.

Ngana said MPs cannot get skills which would not be used and that they will attend the training when the parliament reopens.

Speaker John Marik Makur said there is no parliament in the world that goes without break.

He said he and the state Governor are preparing to reopen the parliament soon.

Mr Marik said boycotting training was bad and that MPs spent nine months in sessions because they do not understand parliamentary procedures.

IRI Program Assistant of Governance James Joseph Lemor urged lawmakers to resolve their issues peacefully.

He appealed to MPs to come for the capacity building workshop after settling their issues.
