Western Bahr El Ghazal Health Ministry reported that the number of pregnant mothers dying during delivery over the past six months reduced.

Director for Planning Monitoring and Evaluation in the ministry John Baptist said more than ten delivery units in three counties reported that 26 mothers died during delivery in last six months, Voice of Hope reported.

He attributed the reduction to the availability of health facilities with qualified birth attendance.

Mr Baptist clarified that the state registered more than 400 successful child deliveries in the last six months.

He said most of the maternal death cases were due to complications and inadequate visit to health facilities before delivery.

Mr Baptist  encouraged pregnant mothers to regularly visit health centres to avoid birth related complications.

He told pregnant mothers that most diseases that cause complications during delivery are preventable if they regularly seek medical advice.
