The President of the Republic called for peace in Jonglei state.

Salva Kiir Mayardit said Jonglei state particularly Pibor County was in chaos for quite a long time showing a sign of no peace in the country, Bakhita Radio reported.

He said if instability continues in Jonglei state, people cannot talk of meaningful peace in South Sudan.

President Kiir accused the army of doing bad things to Murle people saying ‘Murle cannot run away from the national army if you were not doing bad things to them’.

He urged the army Chief of General Staff James Hot Mai to bring to book those involved in the killing of civilians in Pibor County.

President Kiir ruled out that all those found guilty must be announced publicly and punish accordingly.

He also held Murle elders in Juba responsible saying ‘one tribe cannot fight the government’.

The head of the state told the elders to persuade David Yau Yau to join the peace process.

President Kiir said he dissolved the cabinet last week because it was too big and the country’s money was going for salaries.

He urged state governors to avail land to the widows so that they start their livelihood.

President Kiir was addressing the eighth Martyrs’ Day anniversary on Tuesday.
