Over 200 people injured during the current spate of interethnic youth violence taking place in Pibor County were flown by the UN to Bor for treatment.

Jonglei State Red Cross Director David Gai Deer told CRN over the phone that 213 people were flown from Manyabol to Bor for treatment on Sunday.

He explained that the group included four with critical and 13 with big injuries, 38 children and 158 youths with bullet wounds.

Mr Gai said the children did not have gunshot wounds but needed medical care.

He added that a number of youths shot on the head or in the chest died in the bush due to lack of treatment.

Mr Gai explained that the wounded youths flown from Manyabol to Bor were all Lou Nuer.

Asked what happened to the wounded Murle youths, he said he had no idea.

Mr Gai said the clashes started on July 7 and the Lou Nuer youths are targeting water points and pastures used by the Murle cattle keepers.

He added that some of the Lou Nuer youths brought for treatment claimed that they attacked several places and killed a big number of people.

Mr Gai said he is expecting that more wounded people would be collected at Manyabol, because the attacks are ongoing.

Manyabol is controlled by the army and aircraft can land safely in the place.

Medic charity MSF told CRN that it has a nine-member surgical team operating the wounded from Pibor at Bor Civil Hospital.
