The President of Sudan restored the state of West Kordofan and appointed new governors for the region.
On Saturday, Omar Al Bashir issued a republican decree appointing Ahmed Mohamed Haroun as governor of North Kordofan.
Mr Haroun, who is indicted by the ICC for crimes against humanity in Darfur, was the governor of South Kordofan.
Engineer Adam Al-Fekki is the new governor of South Kordofan, and Major General Ahmed Khamis of West Kordofan.
The new governors were sworn in by Mr Al Bashir on Sunday before he left for Nigeria to attend an AU summit on HIV AIDS.
West Kordofan was abolished in 2005 following the onset of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
