Central Equatoria Agriculture minister warned farmers in Yei County and in the state at large against growing harmful crops.

Michael Roberto Kenyi said he will not allow harmful and hazardous crops despite of companies’ interests, Easter Radio reported.

He called on farmers to refrain from growing tobacco and other crops because they affect human health and spoil soil fertility.

Mr Roberto said tobacco absorbs all the soil nutrients and other crops yield poor products.

He encouraged farmers to grow sugarcane, beans and groundnuts and other crops that maintain and increase soil nutrients.

The minister was speaking at Yei Freedom Square on Tuesday during the second independence anniversary celebrations.
