Eastern Equatoria ministry of education on Friday received 250 library books from a donor.
African Educational Trust programme Manager Jackson Okello said the books cost around 3,000 US Dollars, Emmanuel Radio reported.
Mr Okello handed over the books to Eastern Equatoria state Ministry of education officials in Torit.
He disclosed that the reading facilities from British organization “Book Aid” ranges from early childhood to university study books.
African Educational Trust supplied text books to Western and Central Equatoria and to Jonglei states in the past six years.
He adds that the organization has provides about 11, 000 text books worthy over 66,000 US Dollars.
Mr Okello explained that African Educational Trust facilitates libraries in order to improve a reading culture among the people.
He observed that reading culture declined in South Sudan due to lack of proper preparation of learners.
Eastern Equatoria state minister of Education Michael Lopuke Lotyam received the books.
He emphasized the need to promote a reading culture to reduce idleness and improved productivity.
The minister also directed that the text books were labelled, arranged and maintained in the proper manner.
Acting Director General in the ministry of education Adelio Quinto and other directors witnessed the handover of the text books.
