The Catholic Bishop of Tombura Yambio on Saturday launched the diocesan Centenary Basic Schools.

Both Bishop Edwardo Hiiboro Kusala and state Education Minister Pia Philip Michael laid the foundation stone for the construction of Bakindo-Yambio Primary School in Asanza, Gangura Payam, Anisa Radio reported.

Bishop Hiiboro thanked the Minister Pia for attending the occasion.

He said the blessing of the foundation stone spreads to all the Centenary Basic Schools due to be constructed in the Catholic Diocese of Tombura Yambio.

Bishop Hiiboro urged the community of Asanza to take responsibility of the school because this is the first school in the area.

The Bishop added that wanted schools to be constructed in places where there were many children without any learning centre in Western Equatoria.

Minister Pia thanked the bishop for his effort to support education in Western Equatoria.

He urged the Asanza communities to own the school.

Mr Pia promised that the government will support teachers for the Bakindo-Yambio school.

Asanza community representative Archangelo Kereboro expressed happiness for the school that shortens the distance children had to walk to attend schools in Yambio.

Henry Miorobeyo offered part of the plot for the construction of the primary school as his contribution.

The Salesians of Don Bosco agreed to fund the construction of 30 primary schools in the diocese in memory of the centenary celebration.

So far, six primary schools started in Asanza, Yambio, Yabongo in Bakita, Rii-Yubu, Degere in Naandi, Kpangima in Tombura and Maringindo in Nagero parishes.
