South Sudan’s priority road network of 11 intestate and international highways will be complete within ten years with a price tag of almost ten billion dollars.
Government spokesperson Barnaba Marial Benjamin told the press at the end of Friday’s ordinary meeting that the Cabinet approved the plan to 11 construct priority roads and bridges presented by Roads and Bridges Deputy Minister Simon Majok Majak.He said the plan approved by the Cabinet connects the ten states and South Sudan with its six neighbours.
Dr Marial said the 9.98 billion dollars needed for the priority road network will come from the Government and from loans from China, World Bank and African Development Bank and through public-private partnerships.
He added that the ministry used economic and security criteria eyeing stability to choose the priority roads.
Dr Marial said with peace and stability South Sudan can become an attractive investment place.
He added that the World Bank and the African Investment Bank are already building the Juba-Torit-Kapoeta-Kenya road that is part of the plan.
