Unexploded ordinance burst on Thursday at around 3:00 PM, killing two children on the spot and wounded another three at Enyif residential area of Ifwoto Payam, Torit County, in Eastern Equatoria State.

The two deceased were brothers while the three wounded children came from different families.

They were admitted to the state hospital and are in critical condition.

State health minister Margaret Itto told Radio Emmanuel that the children were playing with the unexploded ordinance.

She conveyed condolences to the family that lost two children.

Dr Itto explained that one of the wounded victims had the intestines exposed, the second got a broken leg and the third was in fair condition.

The minister said health officials are handling the case, but that one of the victims is likely to lose his leg.

Dr Itto stated that the three wounded children are in stable condition and should recover.

The minister said the fatal blast was the second in Eastern Equatoria this year following another explosion in February in Kapoeta South that killed one child.

Another two recovered with deformities.

Dr Itto urged parents to guide children away from areas suspected of mines.
