Eastern Equatoria launched an animal vaccination campaign against east coast fever and render pest in Kapoeta East and Torit Counties.

Animal resources and fisheries state minister Hassan Urbano Alex told the press that the vaccination campaign launched on Tuesday targets over 5,000 cows, goats and sheep in the two counties, Radio Emmanuel reported.

The minister said the vaccination campaign aims to prevent an outbreak of the diseases as it occurred last year.

East coast fever and render pest last year affected 901 animals in Bur Payam of Torit County and 3,074 in Lodot, Kapoeta East.

Minister Urbano said over 150 animals died in the outbreak while others were treated.

A large number of animals also died in Budi County.

Fourteen barrels of diesel were procured for fuelling generators to power storage refrigerators to keep the vaccines.
