Lawyers in South Sudan saw the Bill that regulates their profession passed by the National Assembly.
Deputy speaker Fatima Nyawang Biliu, who presided over the sitting, declared the Advocates Bill 2013 passed after third and fourth readings on Tuesday.Parliamentary Affairs minister Michael Makuei Lueth told the press that the law that regulates advocacy in South Sudan was long overdue.
He said the bill regulates de relationship between lawyers and they clients and with the Government among other matters.
Mr Makuei said the Bar Council instituted by the Advocates Bill will regulate the profession and decides what to do with the licenses already issued to lawyers.
The Advocates Bill becomes law after President Salva Kiir Mayardit signs it.
The document has nine chapters and 45 clauses together with two schedules. It covers preliminary provisions, Bar Council, conditions to practice advocacy, advocate trainees, rights and discipline of advocates, Bar Association and other provisions.
