The Sudan Council of Churches or SCC on Tuesday wrote a pastoral letter to the National Constitutional Review Commission saying the churches want to be part of the constitutional process.
SCC Chairperson Bishop Michael Taban said the council felt that it is very important for the churches to be involved in the review process of the Transitional Constitution and it formed its own constitutional review committee.National Constitution Review Commission Chairperson Akolda Man Tier said the SCC facilitated South-South dialogue and it is part of its tradition to take an active role in South Sudan.
He said the church leaders are in the middle of the national issues and want to give their own contributions.
Government spokesperson Barnaba Marial Benjamin said churches play a great role in South Sudan.
He added that the churches’ contribution will strengthen to the country.
The church leaders who signed the letter were from the Catholic, Episcopal, African Inland, Presbyterian and Evangelical Church.
