The African Union or AU condemned, in the strongest possible terms, the killing of a paramount chief and a peacekeeper in Abyei.
AU Chairperson of the Commission Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma said in a statement that the killings were a heinous crime that threatens the stability of the area, and the progress achieved by Sudan and South Sudan in addressing their common security and socio-economic challenges. She urged the Government of Sudan to ensure that “all those responsible for this dastardly act are brought to justice immediately.”
Dr Dlamini-Zuma called on the leadership of Sudan and South Sudan to take all the steps necessary to ensure that the current situation does not spiral out of control.
