U.S. Ambassador to South Sudan condemned Saturday’s Misseriya attack that killed a Ngok Dinka Paramount and an Ethiopian peacekeeper.
“We are profoundly saddened by the death of Paramount Chief Kuol Deng Kuol and a UN peacekeeper who was accompanying him”, Susan D. Page said in a statement. She added that Chief Kuol had met with a Sudanese delegation under the auspices of the United Nations and was working for a peaceful, negotiated settlement for Abyei.
Ambassador Page said the U.S. Government strongly condemned the act of violence and demanded that those responsible be held accountable.
She urged the governments of South Sudan and Sudan to exercise restraint during what she called “this sensitive and volatile period.”
