The governor of Western Equatoria State recognised that the media is core to changes in South Sudan and the whole world.
Bangasi Joseph Bakosoro told journalists during the World Press Freedom Day in Yambio that they should be granted freedom and access to information to promote development, Radio Anisa reported.He promised that his government would make sure the safety of media personnel was guaranteed in the state although the media laws were not yet out.
Governor Bakosoro said the media plays a vital role in exposing the government’s achievements and failures.
The Governor advised journalists to follow their ethics and avoid issues that can incite conflicts in the community.
He said as head of state he regretted that media personnel were intimidated or harassed in Western Equatoria.
Governor Bakosoro urged everybody to be transparent and open to the media.
