Eastern Equatoria information minister accused some county commissioner of violating press freedom by denying journalists access to information.
Felix Otuduha Siro told Radio Emmanuel that some county commissioners violate freedom of the press by avoiding the company of deployed reporters during their visits. The minister did not name specific commissioners.
He added that he was deploying new reporters to inform the public about government activities.
Mr Otuduha registered cases of commissioners mistreating government deployed reporters at various counties.
He says the ministry is investigating the cases and re-deploying reporters to the problematic offices to verify if the commissioners change their attitude.
Mr Otuduha said some government officials still hold to an old negative perception towards the media thinking that journalists are spies like during the Sudanese occupation.
The minister called on government officials to change their attitudes and cooperate with the press as South Sudan is no longer under any threats.
He urged journalists to observe their code of conduct and respect the rights of other people.
The minister was talking during an interview to mark the International Press Freedom Day.
