A team from Kenya’s Cooperative Union arrived in Yei River County of Central Equatoria to assess the performance of officials at the end of a five-year memorandum of understanding signed between the Kenyan and South Sudan governments on capacity building in 2008.

The Director General in the National Ministry of Rural Development and Cooperatives Bosco Abusha said the main purpose of the visit was to assess the activities carried out by the trained labour force, Radio Easter reported.

Kenya’s Cooperative Union Commissioner Fredrick Odiambo said the partnership between the two countries enabled South Sudan Cooperative Union to play a leading role in economic development.

He said the participation in economic development combats exploitation and empowers people.

Assistant commissioner for Cooperatives and Rural Development Emmanuel Dusman Kenyi stated that improving human resources will enable farmers to boost management and records keeping.
