UNMISS, the United Nations Mission in South Sudan, and DDR, the South Sudan Demobilization, Disarmament and Reintegration Commission, are building a health centre and a school at Tirangore Boma, Hiyala Payam of Torit County in Eastern Equatoria.

The Primary Health Care Centre is at finishing stages while the four classrooms block advanced to roofing level, Radio Emmanuel reported.

DDR Eastern Equatoria state Director Mary Achomo said the school project will include the construction of a kitchen and provision of clean water and light.

She added that other development projects will be initiated to support ex- combatants and the host communities.

Ms Ochomo explained that UNMISS and DDR offered the health and education facilities as appreciation to natives of Tirangore Boma.

She said the community offered 1.2 square kilometre piece of land for the DDR program to establish a regional transitional facility in Equatoria.

South Sudan DDR Commission plans to relieve over 150,000 soldiers from active service into civil life in the next eight years.

Training facilities are to be ready in the three regions of Equatoria, Upper Nile and Bahr El Ghazal to enable smooth running of the DDR process.
