The administration of Wau Teaching Hospital is taking care of a two months old orphan after her mother died due to post-delivery complications.

Sidonia Arkangelo Dahab, the Matron at the Delivery Ward, told Voice of Hope that the mother went alone to the hospital, gave birth at the end of February and died one month later.

She said that State Ministry of Social Development and some NGOs were informed about the child, but nobody followed up the case.

Ms Arkangelo said that the child was given three names: Sidonia, Ateima and Bakhita. Atemia Ateim has become her common name, because she is an orphan who has no relatives.

She added that the mother did not recover the blood she lost during delivery.

Ms Arkangelo said Atiema’s father died before the baby was born.

She explained that a female relative came inquiring about the deceased mother, but she refused to take Atiema with her because she had already another baby.

Ms Arkangelo said the child was transferred to the nutrition ward since she got sick two days ago.

Semina Adam, the Matron at the Nutrition Ward, explained that the child was improving following treatment but she complained that the Hospital Emergency Pharmacy lacks some of the needed drugs and they had to buy them outside.

She asked the state ministry of Social Development to identify a nanny for Atiema to free the hospital staff.

Atiema Atiem is recovering now from fever, malaria and malnutrition.

She is under the intensive care of nurses at Wau Teaching Hospital.
