A health officer told the communities of Nuba Mountains to stop using herbs or traditional healers and bring sick people to hospital immediately.

Mustafa Ali Kiren said the use of herbs in combination with drugs can have devastating effects on patients.

He explained that many people living in areas far away from health centres tend to use herbs most of the time.

Mr Ali explained that many times patients report too late for treatment and the medicines don’t work and people go to traditional medicine people.

He called on caretakers to report their patients to the hospital as soon as they fall sick.

Mr Ali said if one goes to hospital and the treatment fails, he or she should go back for a second check-up.

He remarked that herbs were used in the old days but should not be used today because there are better drugs.
