The National Elections Commission (NEC) has delivered the first batch of voter registration materials to the Central Equatoria State High Election Committee as preparations for voter registration ahead of South Sudan’s elections continue.
The delivery was observed by the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) as part of its pre-election domestic observation mission.
CEPO Executive Director Edmond Yakani said the materials included voter registration ledger books for recording voters’ details, voter cards attached to the books, and laminating machines for processing registration cards at designated centres.
He explained that registered voters would receive laminated voter cards after completing the registration process.
Yakani described the delivery as an encouraging development and urged the NEC leadership to ensure the timely distribution of registration materials to all states and the three administrative areas, including designated voter registration centres.
He said the exercise marked the first phase of the distribution process and announced that CEPO would release an observation statement or report the following day.
