A political analyst in Western Bahr el Ghazal State has called on the United Nations Mission in South Sudan, UNMISS, to strengthen its support for the country’s electoral process to help promote peaceful, credible, and transparent elections.

Speaking during the Rangaya program on Voice of Hope Radio, Lecturer Abdallah Ramadan Nasir, Dean of the College of Economic and Social Studies at the University of Bahr el Ghazal in Wau, said several key electoral preparations remain outstanding ahead of the expected elections in December.

Ramadan Nasir acknowledged the government’s efforts to prepare for the elections but expressed concern about delays in essential activities, particularly voter registration.

He urged UNMISS to strengthen its engagement before, during and after the elections to help create conditions for a peaceful and credible electoral process.

Meanwhile, Anastasie Nyirigira Mukangarambe, Head of the UNMISS Wau Regional Office, reaffirmed the mission’s commitment to supporting an environment conducive to the successful conduct of the electoral process.

She highlighted UNMISS’s mandate to protect civilians and emphasized the importance of civilian protection before, during, and after the elections.

As South Sudan prepares for the anticipated elections, timely electoral preparations, cooperation among key stakeholders, and civilian protection remain essential to creating a peaceful electoral environment.
