Western Bahr el Ghazal’s State High Election Committee plans to recruit up to 900 personnel for voter registration across 232 polling centres after receiving more than 2,000 applications.
The Chairperson of the State High Election Committee, Arkangelo Udo Agany, said the recruitment is intended to ensure adequate staffing for the voter registration exercise once the National Elections Commission (NEC) announces the official start date.
Agany said the recruitment process is being conducted based on the number of polling centres, with each centre expected to have a team of five people, including an identified local chief.
He explained that the committee had allowed seven days for applications and had closed the application period for the positions currently under review. The committee is now shortlisting candidates for recruitment.
Agany clarified that the National Elections Commission is responsible for determining and announcing the election calendar, including the official dates for voter registration, which is expected to take place across all ten states of South Sudan.
He also urged interested applicants to apply for the remaining position of Chief Returning Officer before the October 21st deadline, warning that the application window was nearing its close.
The state committee’s recruitment drive forms part of preparations for voter registration, a key step towards South Sudan’s planned general elections.
While preparations are underway at the state level, the National Elections Commission remains responsible for announcing the official voter registration schedule.
The recruitment process is expected to provide the personnel needed to facilitate voter registration across Western Bahr el Ghazal’s 232 polling centres once the national exercise officially begins.
