Eastern Equatoria State Governor Louis Lobong Lojore and Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony met in Juba on Tuesday, 15 September 2026, to discuss security and interstate trade challenges affecting the movement of people, livestock and goods along the Juba–Torit road.
Governor Lobong called for safe and unhindered movement along the corridor and urged action against practices that may be discouraging traders from taking their goods and livestock to markets in Juba.
Lobong raised concerns over reported highway robberies, child abductions, livestock theft and unauthorized charges, which he said are affecting traders, livestock keepers and other travellers heading to Juba from Eastern Equatoria.
He also expressed concern that many of those reportedly killed in incidents occurring deep inside Central Equatoria are from Eastern Equatoria State.
Meanwhile, Governor Emmanuel Adil directed the Juba County Commissioner to engage communities in identified hotspot areas and strengthen cooperation with security forces to improve security along the highway.
The two governors emphasized the need for closer coordination between the two state governments and security agencies, particularly along the Juba–Torit corridor.
For traders, livestock keepers and ordinary travellers, the Juba–Torit road remains a vital link connecting Eastern Equatoria communities with Juba’s markets and the wider economy.
