The Embassies of Canada, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, the United Kingdom, and the United States have jointly called on the Government of South Sudan to increase domestic funding for the health sector following the current Ebola outbreak in the region.
In a joint statement, the diplomatic missions urged the government to ensure the timely and regular payment of salaries for public health workers, particularly those involved in Ebola surveillance, detection, and response. They emphasized that a well-funded and adequately supported health system is essential for protecting lives and containing disease outbreaks.
The embassies acknowledged the continued support provided by international partners, but stressed that long-term public health security depends on stronger national investment and greater government ownership of essential health services.
The statement comes amid growing regional concern over the Ebola outbreak, highlighting the need for enhanced preparedness, rapid response, and a resilient healthcare workforce to prevent the spread of the disease in South Sudan.
