The Western Bahr el Ghazal State Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports has confirmed the release of ten young inmates from Wau Central Prison after their fines were paid by the State Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.

Speaking to Voice of Hope Radio on Tuesday, the State Youth Union Chairperson, Andlino Gabriel Madut, commended the minister for fulfilling the promise he made during South Sudan’s 15th Independence Day celebrations at the prison.

Madut expressed hope that the initiative would encourage the released youth to avoid criminal activities and become productive members of society. He also urged them to adopt positive attitudes and contribute to the development of their communities.

Meanwhile, State Minister Mohammed Ali Goni said he decided to assist the inmates after meeting them during the Independence Day celebrations at Wau Central Prison, believing they deserved a second chance.

He explained that his support was limited to inmates imprisoned for failing to pay court-imposed fines and that he personally settled the outstanding amounts to secure their release.

The minister described the initiative as the beginning of a broader effort and appealed to well-wishers and community members to support similar initiatives that provide deserving inmates with a second chance.

He also encouraged young people to avoid crime and engage in meaningful and productive activities that will help build a better future for themselves and their communities.
