President Salva Kiir Mayardit and Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Monday held high-level bilateral talks in Kampala aimed at strengthening cooperation between South Sudan and Uganda.
President Kiir is currently in the Ugandan capital to attend the inauguration ceremony of President Museveni following his re-election, a visit that also provided an opportunity for the two leaders to discuss key regional and bilateral issues.
The meeting focused on enhancing political and economic cooperation, promoting regional peace and security, and expanding the strategic partnership between the two neighboring countries.
According to officials, the two Heads of State discussed several priority areas, including joint border security operations, road and railway infrastructure projects linking Juba and Kampala, as well as regional electricity connectivity initiatives aimed at boosting trade and economic development.
President Kiir and President Museveni also reaffirmed their commitment to supporting each other within regional and international platforms and pledged continued collaboration on peace and security efforts across the region.
The talks reflected the longstanding friendship, shared history, and growing cooperation between South Sudan and Uganda, with both leaders emphasizing the importance of unity, stability, and regional integration as key drivers for economic growth and development.
Uganda remains one of South Sudan’s key regional allies and trading partners, hosting thousands of South Sudanese refugees and playing an important role in regional mediation and peace initiatives.
