Ten cases of measles have been recorded at Obbo Primary Health Care Centre in Magwi County, Eastern Equatoria State.

Mr. Abonga James, the officer in charge, said the most affected group is children under five years of age. Three cases developed severe complications and were referred to Magwi for further treatment.

“We have received ten measles cases in the past two weeks. Last week, there were nine cases, and for three days, there were no new cases, but today, we received one more. Among the earlier cases, three developed complications; two were referred to Magwi, while one improved here. Most cases involve children under six months, and some between five and six years. Many of those affected had not completed their measles vaccination.”

Abonga urged parents to ensure children are immunized to prevent further spread.

“At the facility level, we involved community leaders to raise awareness. We notify communities during gatherings and isolate suspected cases. We are also emphasizing immunization campaigns.”

Health workers are also advising parents to limit children’s exposure to crowded places.

“Immunization must be taken seriously. These diseases are preventable, but during outbreaks, we can only manage symptoms. Communities should prioritize vaccination and avoid overcrowded areas during outbreaks.”

The remarks were made during a phone interview with Radio Emmanuel 89FM on Monday.
