The Director of the Catholic Radio Network, Fr. John Gbemboyo, has emphasized the need for radio stations to adhere strictly to Church guidelines when broadcasting the Holy Mass.
Speaking at the closing of a CRN station managers’ workshop, Fr. Gbemboyo encouraged media practitioners to develop more pre-recorded content to keep stations active with meaningful programs that support and guide communities.
He clarified that, according to Catholic Church recommendations, the Holy Mass must always be broadcast live rather than pre-recorded. He explained that the Mass is a sacred celebration meant to be experienced in real time, not treated as entertainment or replayed content.
“The Holy Mass is to be live at the moment when it is being celebrated,” he said, cautioning against airing recorded Masses when no actual service is taking place.
Fr. Gbemboyo noted, however, that certain parts of the Mass, such as the homily, can be replayed independently as reflections that benefit listeners at any time.
He further advised stations to use alternative content, including spiritual talks, music, and other recorded programs, to fill airtime when live Mass is not available.
