The Catholic University of South Sudan, on Friday, April 24, 2026, graduated 823 students across various disciplines, marking a major milestone in the country’s higher education sector.
The graduates were awarded degrees, diplomas, and certificates in Education, Business Administration and Finance, Justice and Peace, and Agricultural Science during a ceremony held in Juba.
Speaking at the event, Vice-Chancellor Rev. Bro. Prof. Dr. Bruno Dada urged the graduates to use their education to drive positive change in society.
“Today, as our graduates go out, I challenge them to apply their knowledge to create meaningful impact and address societal challenges,” he said.
He emphasized the importance of adaptability in a rapidly changing world, encouraging graduates to embrace technology responsibly.
“Adopt the positive use of technology, especially artificial intelligence, as you navigate a complex, unpredictable, and often chaotic future,” Dr.Dada added.
The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted the growing role of digital transformation in education, noting that embracing technology is no longer optional.
“Digital transformation is not just a goal; it is imperative. It enables us to build an educational ecosystem that transcends physical boundaries, expands access, and fosters a culture of innovation,” he said.
Quoting Eleanor Roosevelt, he reminded graduates that “the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
Valedictorian Amoni Jones, from the Faculty of Education’s Department of History and Geography, called on fellow graduates to use their knowledge in service to their communities.
“May we be a light in communities affected by revenge, crime, drug abuse, cattle raiding, robbery, tribalism, and corruption,” he said, underscoring the need for responsibility and civic engagement.
Representing the Chancellor, Auxiliary Bishop Santo Laku Pio urged graduates to extend compassion to vulnerable populations.
“With the knowledge you have gained, act to care for those who are wounded, hungry, worried, confused, and distressed,” he said. “The people of South Sudan need guidance toward humanity and integral development, and you are the agents of that change.”
He further encouraged graduates to promote unity and shared values across communities.
“We must rise above divisions that isolate us and instead cultivate values of reciprocity and mutual enrichment,” he added.
The ceremony underscored the university’s commitment to producing graduates equipped not only with academic knowledge but also with a strong sense of responsibility to contribute to peace, development, and social cohesion in South Sudan.
