The President of South Sudan;Salva Kiir has relieved Professor John Apuruot Akec , the Vice Chancellor of University of Juba, and replaced him with professor Robert Mayom Deng in a presidential decree read on the state own South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) on Friday evening(8th March 2024).
Professor Akech was relieved together with other Vice chancellors of the public universities across the country with the exception of Professor Abraham Matoc Dhal of Dr. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology in Bor.

The outgoing Vice chancellor of the University of Juba, John Apuruot Akech, applauded the Chancellor (President Kiir) for giving him the opportunity, trust and support while leading the public university for 10 years.
“I would like to thank the Chancellor (President Kiir) for trust and support over the last decade; it was a great honor for me to serve as the Vice Chancellor of University of Juba, our premier national university, for ten years.” Prof. Akech wrote.
He further congratulates the new Vice Chancellor and his team as he wishes them success as they assume their duty.
“Life is too short to spend in one position. It is the right time to move on, and allow other colleagues with fresh ideas to take our university to the next level.”
