Catholic Diocese of Malakal has promoted Bentiu in Unity State as a pastoral region preparing the area to become a diocese.

Bishop Dr. Stephen Nyodho Ador of the Diocese announced earlier the transformation of the Western Deanery of Bentiu into a pastoral region.

Father William Bol, The Vicar General of Malakal Diocese says the Priest assigned to that region will coordinate pastoral work between the parishes located across the area.

The Vicar General pointed out that the idea of naming the new pastoral region is to facilitate the work in the Catholic Diocese of Malakal and not a political division.

Fr. William explained that the father would be paying attention to the pastors who work in the parishes and report to the Diocese.

The Priest called on the faithful to pray for the Church to glorify the name of God all the time.

Last year, citizens in Unity State expected His Holiness Pope Francis to visit them with the hope of promoting the area into a Diocese. They raised concern to Pope Envoy who visited the area after His Holiness failed to visit Benitu due to his short trip to the country.
