The Catholic Diocese of Tombura Yambio has set to launch a three-year go-to-school campaign, the date is set to coincide with Diocesan Literacy Day and the Lenten Campaign.

The campaign program which is going to run for three (3) years will be led by the Bishop of Tombura Yambio Diocese Rt. Rev. Eduardo Hiiboro Kusala

According to the designed program, the project will target over 1,500,000 across Western Equatoria State.

The idea of the Campaign aims to bring Students, parents, and teachers together, fostering positive relationships and open lines of communication.

Bishop Hiiboro stated that he came up with the idea after realizing that meaningful change and true peace could only come through providing and improving education.

His Lordship Eduardo said children and youth are the future of the new Republic of South Sudan and they should leave any child behind.

“Children and youth are the future of this new Republic of South Sudan, and we can’t afford to leave any child behind.”

He adds that the Catholic Church will continue to advocate for education because children who go to school are a minority in Western Equatoria State.

“Children who go to school are a minority in Western Equatoria State, where six out of 10 children are not in school one of the worst enrolment rates in the world. As a diocese, we are preparing tomorrow’s leaders, engineers, teachers, religious and politicians.”

Indeed education remains a priority and we would work to achieve the objectives of the campaign, “Says Bishop.”

The Bishop will officially launch the “we go to School” campaign in Ezo County which is the mid-west Deanery of Tombura Yambio Diocese.

The 2024-2026 We Go to school campaign covers kindergarten, primary school children, and young people at all levels in the state. The project will be supported by UNICEF, WEP, UNESCO, WVI, CODEP, CHO, RDAA, STO, FAO, UNDP, AZANDE KINGDOM, and other traditional leaders.
