South Sudan Salva Kiir Mayardit encourages people aspiring for political posts during the upcoming General elections to organize their parties and contest peacefully without violence.

The president made the statement during the 7th annual Governors’ Forum which started on Tuesday, November 28th in Juba.

President Kiir warned that any activities that create violence and destroy the Country will not be acceptable.

“There is no need to engage in activities that will destroy our country and harm our people, we are establishing South Sudan as a democratic country anybody who wants to become president has the right to organize their party and contest peacefully without violence.”

Kiir further highlighted that the only way to build strong political stability and democratic South Sudan is to cooperate in the implementation of the peace agreement.

“I encourage the parties to the agreement to continue to cooperate in the implementation of the peace agreement that is the only way to build a strong foundation of politically stable and democratic South Sudan. It’s also the only way for social economic recovery and prosperity for our people.”

The president criticized some Governors for not leading their states according to the constitutions and laws which resulted in cancelling cabinet meetings.

“I want to register some concerns about how some of you govern the state government. I’m reliably informed that some of you do not govern your states according to the Constitution and law. Some of you do not hold cabinet meetings, there are conflicts between the executives and state assembly which make the states unstable.”

Kiir directed the national institution responsible for governance to develop mechanisms for some of the governors to ensure that they present their reports to the National Council of Ministers.

He stresses that some of the governors are not implementing the agreement on the resolution of the conflict in South Sudan.

“Again, some of you are not implementing the agreement on the resolution of the conflict in the Republic of South Sudan the way it’s supposed to be which is causing problems between the parties to the agreement.

No Governor has the right to dismiss or suspend anybody from their position just because he or she is from another party, Kiir said.

“Through the high-level standing committee for the implementation of the agreement, no governor has the right to dismiss or suspend anybody from their position just because he or she is from another party.”

The governors’ forum is held under the theme: “Fostering National Cohesion South Sudan path to peaceful Transition for Democratic Governance.”
