The Auxiliary Bishop of Juba Archdioceses, Santo Loku Pio has announced plans and preparations to welcome South Sudan’s first cardinal his eminence Stephen Ameyu Mulla.
This followed the elevation of 21 Bishops who were promoted to cardinals in the Catholic Church and consistory was held in the Vatican last month.
Nearly hundreds of South Sudanese attended the events, celebrating the recognition of the country as the highest rank in the Catholic Church.
Bishop Loku says the new Cardinal will return home on 30th October 2023 and be welcomed at Juba International Airport by the Chruch members and South Sudanese communities.
Speaking during a press conference in Juba on Thursday, Bishop Loku who chaired the reception committee said the Cardinal would arrive at 10 AM.
Bishop Santo highlighted that the committee has designated categories that will be grounded at the airport including St. Joseph Parish, Catholic University, and St Mary College.
Other groups are St. Kizito Parish Holy Rosary, holy cross, Terekeka pastoral region, St. Charles Lwanga Lokiliri, church personnel, cultural groups, government officials, and protocols.
He narrated that the Cardinal together with the faithful would proceed to the cathedral to greet and bless the congregation.
Bishop Loku further said the official Thanksgiving Mass will be officiated on the 4th of November at St. Theresa Cathedral where different dignitaries will speak speeches and presentation of gifts.
