“Cases Awaiting Trial in Wau Central Prison have dropped,” Official reveals

The Chairperson of the Meeting of Rule of Law Forum, Yai Anyuon, has reported that the number of cases awaiting trial in Wau Prison and Juvenile Centre in Western Bahr el Ghazal State has reduced compared to the previous year. 

According to Anyuon, the judges in Wau managed to try 776 cases in Wau prison, including 152 people sentenced to death and 524 people convicted of other offenses, while 279 cases are still awaiting trial. 

“The cases that await trial in Wau Central prison have drastically reduced come to the previous year,” he stressed.

Anyuon mention that, out of 77 cases in juvenile centers, they trail 52 cases and 25 cases remain. 

He acknowledged commits made by judges for trailing more cases urging them to continue with the spirit.

Yai said, “This is great work by the judges to the state and we want to commend them for committing themselves in trying many of the cases. We are urging them to continue with the spirit.”

The Meeting of Rule of Law Forum is conducted monthly and brought together NGOs, Judges, Policy makers, Prisons Services among others.

The State Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare, State Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement also partake in the forum to discuss the status  of Rule of Law in the State.
