Govt set a budget of one million dollars for the Economic Conference

South Sudan announced a budget of one million US dollars for the upcoming National Economic Conference to be hosted in Juba in September.

Finance Minister Barnaba Bak Chol says the National Economic Conference is set to bring together all the stakeholders across the country, including the foreign developmental partners.

Hon. Bak highlighted that the conference will deliberate on fundamental economic challenges facing South Sudan.

“We are paying above 80 percent of this cost and the total cost I will tell you next time, but it’s not more than 1 million USD It is in that range.

I believe if there is an additional budget within a couple of days because we are still spending, it may require us to give you the total budget by the end of the conference. So the budget is around one million and we are financing it with our partners and our partners already pledged their parts,” Bak said.

Bak further points out that the forthcoming National Economic Conference is organized to extend the economic transformational agenda to the next level.

“We have achieved several issues in regards to public management reforms, we have done a lot in non-oil revenue collections which has increased from 3 billion to above 15 billion by now, “Minister Bak explains.

According to the Minister the National Economic Conference will advance the ongoing public financial management reforms and set the roadmap for achieving micro-stability in South Sudan.

Minister Bak announced the first-ever National Economic conference will be held from the 4th to the 8th of September 2023 in Juba, under the theme “Towards a diversified inclusive sustainable economic growth.”
