Citizens urge the government to alleviate the economy

Citizens in Eastern Equatoria and Warrap States are calling on the government to help the citizens in stabilising the Country’s economic situation.

They say their livelihood cannot meet the current market prices leaving them more vulnerable.

This came after basic commodities prices doubled due to the inflation of dollar exchange to South Sudanese Pounds. In recent weeks, 100 US dollars changed at 100 thousand Pound at the back market

The community said South Sudan should not leave its market to be controlled by United States dollars but strengthen the local currency.

They talked to Radio Emmanuel 89 FM on Tuesday during a community discussion on the Revitalized Peace Agreement.

The community also appeals to the government and other relevant authorities to support the area with basic services.

They raised concerns that their area still struggling with services like schools, health facilities, and clean water.

The community says, for peace to prevail in South Sudan, citizens should be able to access basic services.

However, in Warrap state residents criticized government over high commodities prices in the market due to the high rate of the dollar asking for quick intervention.

A local businesswoman named Awut who sells tea at Kuacjok market said the price of tea is increased to 300 SSP after price of sugar doubled.

Awut appeals to the government to crack down on the economic crisis, by reopening its local market to rescue the vulnerable people.

A Boda Boda rider identified as Adhuth Chol worrying that no alternative plans to do since one litter of fuel costs one thousand five hundred.

He further said the fuel price in the black-market cost three thousand South Sudanese pounds make local transporters to rethink of their business.
